The city appoints an outside law firm to investigate ongoing building concerns and determine the cause of construction-related issues
New Braunfels, Texas, 7 August 2026 – The City of New Braunfels has appointed an independent law firm to investigate ongoing issues at its police department headquarters. City officials unanimously approved the decision during a special council meeting, demonstrating their commitment to conducting a fair and transparent review of the building’s condition.
The police headquarters was completed as part of a 2019 bond project with a construction cost of approximately $36.3 million. During the initial warranty period, nearly 200 construction-related items, including roofing, fencing, heating and cooling systems, and door adjustments, were identified and repaired. However, after the warranty expired, additional concerns such as roof leaks and structural issues continued to emerge.
To better understand the root cause of these problems, the city has already hired an independent engineering firm to carry out a comprehensive technical assessment of the facility. That review is expected to provide detailed findings on the building’s structural condition, pavement movement, drainage systems, and other reported issues. The legal investigation will work alongside the engineering review to help determine responsibility and identify the next steps.
City officials have stated that identifying the source of the problems is the priority before making decisions about repairs or possible cost recovery.
